Oslo has topped a list of the world’s most expensive cities for many years. Naturally it is affecting prices for budget accommodation and although Oslo is offering some cheap hostels, they still are expensive in comparison to average European prices. The Grand Hotel – the most prestigious hotel in Oslo is located on Karl Johan. The hotel first opened its doors in 1874. The Louis XVI revival style building, with its hint of Nordic art nouveau and characteristic clock tower from 1913 and stands as a symbol of a first-class hotel with tradition, atmosphere and style. Grand Hotel has recently been included in list of the top 500 hotels to stay in worldwide. The Nobel Peace Prize has been presented in Oslo on December 10 since 1901. Since then the laureates always stay at the Grand Hotel.
