Do you want to see provincial Norway without spending the whole day on the road? Then Drøbak is the place for you.
In the 18th century it was comparable in size and importance to Oslo, but later it hopelessly fell behind and turned into a true province — unspoiled by mass tourism.
In my opinion, this excursion can appeal to everyone. You can take charming, postcard-worthy photos of a small town on the shores of the Oslo Fjord, visit the residence of the Norwegian Santa Claus, and history enthusiasts of World War II can touch the very guns that sank a brand-new German ship carrying troops sent to capture Oslo on April 9, 1940.
If you’re into World War II, be sure to watch the film “The Battle for Oslo” — then we’ll have plenty to talk about and see.
Don’t forget to bring your camera. Drøbak is a paradise for photographers.
